Does This Sound Like You?

Dealing with constant body aches, chronic fatigue, anxiety, and/or sleep disturbances?

Do you need several cups of coffee just to feel awake and start your day?

Or maybe you just experience low energy throughout the day?

You may have even mentioned it to your doctor, only to be told: “it’s just part of getting older” or "your labs are fine".

Chances are, it might have nothing to do with age – but rather with hormone imbalances brought on by adrenal dysfunction.

Sadly, many conventionally trained physicians will pay little attention to proper adrenal health – and are unfamiliar with the advanced lab testing that could detect whether your adrenal and stress hormones could be the root cause of your observed symptoms.

Adrenals & Stress

You might wonder how the adrenal health is linked to your energy levels.

The adrenals, a set of important glands that rest on top of your kidneys, are in charge of regulating important stress hormones like cortisol – responsible for the “fight or flight” response and other stress hormones like epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine (noradrenaline).

When your stress response is not balanced, the ability to turn these hormones “on and off” gets impaired, and thus can wreak havoc with your energy levels.

Due to illness, prolonged low-grade stress and other factors, your adrenal glands may be overworked, causing feelings of intense fatigue and exhaustion even after a full night’s sleep.

Without proper regulation from your endocrine system, you may feel unable to cope with normal everyday stress or even handle the normal activities of life.

Craving salty or sweet foods is a common sign, as a way to refuel fast since the body is searching to upgrade energy any way it can – but that can cause weight gain and other health issues down the road.

Additionally, adrenal dysfunction can result in more than just decreased energy – it can also cause low libido, weight gain, increased PMS/menopausal symptoms, constipation, and a weakened immune system.

How We Approach Stress

In our practice, we are trained to get to the root of your chronic fatigue and any of the other symptoms you may be suffering from – and advanced hormone testing is a key piece to ensure that you won’t continue to “run on empty” due to your adrenals.

If we do discover you have adrenal imbalances, then chances are your stress hormones are not “shutting off” correctly, which could happen for a variety of reasons – including going through hormonal changes that women normally experience during perimenopause and menopause.

“How do I fix my adrenals?” might be your next question. Balancing your adrenals takes more than just dealing with those glands separately. There is a complex brain–adrenal feedback loop (called the HPA axis) that typically gets “off-kilter.”

That’s why in Functional Medicine, we never just treat “parts” of the body separately, but look at the body as a whole.

As part of our stress reset approach, we devise a full body-balancing protocol that not only supports your adrenals but also rebalances other areas that may be causing havoc with your adrenals – including diet, gut health, lifestyle, and stress factors, sleep habits and insulin resistance and other hormonal imbalances.

If you have been experiencing symptoms that may be connected with adrenal dysfunction and are looking for answers, schedule a complimentary call so we can talk about the appropriate lab testing and follow-up to restore your hormones to optimal levels so you can look and feel your absolute best.

Safety

Our goal is to help your stress system settle so your energy feels steady again. As we improve sleep, meals, movement, and simple stress tools—and support key nutrients—many people notice fewer afternoon crashes, clearer thinking, better moods, and more resilient mornings. If you already take medicines (including steroids for other conditions), we’ll coordinate with your prescribing clinician so your plan stays safe and makes sense for your whole health picture.

Your safety comes first. Get urgent care for chest pain, trouble breathing, one-sided weakness, new confusion, or a very high fever. If you have known adrenal insufficiency (Addison’s disease) or have used steroid medicines for a long time, learn the signs of an adrenal crisis—severe weakness, vomiting, belly pain, dizziness, or fainting—and seek emergency care if they appear. We will help you understand your risks and build a simple, step-by-step plan that fits your life.

FAQs

Is “adrenal fatigue” a real diagnosis?

The term “adrenal fatigue” isn’t recognized in mainstream medicine. However, real adrenal disorders (like adrenal insufficiency) and long-term stress effects do exist. We focus on proven basics—sleep, nutrition, movement, and stress skills—while ruling out true adrenal disease when appropriate.

What’s the difference between stress effects and adrenal insufficiency?

Chronic stress can make you feel wired-and-tired, but adrenal insufficiency is a hormone-deficiency disorder that needs medical care. Your history, symptoms, and labs help tell them apart.

Could my medicines affect my adrenals?

Yes. Using glucocorticoid (steroid) medicines for several weeks or more can suppress normal cortisol production. Never stop steroids suddenly without medical guidance.

What helps me feel better day to day?

Regular sleep and wake times, steady meals with enough protein and fiber, daily movement, and simple stress practices (breathing, relaxation, gentle yoga) often help within a few weeks.

Do I need special tests?

Sometimes. If your story suggests a true adrenal disorder, we’ll coordinate appropriate lab testing. Many people feel better with lifestyle steps first while we decide whether testing will change the plan.

Can I work with you if I’m already on medications?

Yes. We’ll coordinate with your prescribing clinician and adjust your plan so it’s safe and realistic.
