Most people are taught to accept exhaustion, inflammation, and feeling “off” as a normal part of healing. But as a physician, I see things differently: true wellness shouldn’t come with side effects.
Every day, I meet people—especially those recovering from cancer—who’ve been told to live with brain fog, weight gain, anxiety, joint pain, or a sense of disconnection from their own bodies. That doesn’t sit right with me. And it doesn’t have to be your reality.
Treating Disease Is Not the Same as Restoring Health
Conventional medicine is very good at treating acute problems. When something is life-threatening, we act fast, and we should.
But too often, people get stuck after treatment. Technically, they’re “done,” yet they still feel inflamed, depleted, exhausted, and off-balance. Labs may come back “normal,” but their body doesn’t feel normal at all.
That’s because treating a disease and restoring true health are two very different goals.
My approach isn’t about replacing oncology care or discouraging medical treatment. It’s about supporting your body so it can recover more fully, tolerate treatments better, and create an internal environment where health, not disease, thrives.
Inflammation Is the Common Thread
At the root of nearly every chronic condition I see—cancer recovery, autoimmune disease, hormone imbalance, mood disorders, metabolic dysfunction—there is inflammation.
Inflammation doesn’t happen randomly.
It builds over time through:
- Gut dysfunction
- Hormone imbalances
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Chronic stress
- Toxic exposures
- Highly processed food
When the body is constantly inflamed, it can’t repair, regulate, or protect itself effectively. My approach focuses on identifying why the body is inflamed and systematically removing those stressors while restoring what’s missing.
Why the Gut Matters More Than Most People Realize
Your gut is far more than a digestive system. It’s a central hub of your immune health.
When the gut lining becomes irritated or permeable—a condition often called “leaky gut”—toxins, bacteria, and inflammatory compounds can slip into the bloodstream. Suddenly, your immune system is on high alert, and your body starts reacting to everything.
This is why gut health is foundational. If your gut is inflamed, no amount of supplements, medications, or positive thinking will fully fix the problem.
Food plays a huge role. The more processed and altered it is, the harder your body has to work. Whole, nourishing foods—fresh vegetables, clean proteins, healthy fats—create a vastly different internal environment than packaged, processed products.
Healing isn’t about restriction. It’s about removing what irritates your system and giving your body exactly what it needs to thrive.
Hormones: Replacement vs. Restoration
One of the reasons I wrote my book Normal Doesn’t Have Side Effects is because of how often patients are warned to expect misery from treatment.
In conventional training, we’re taught to prescribe a medication and then list all the things that might go wrong.
But when I work with bioidentical hormones and targeted support, my goal isn’t to override the body. It’s to restore balance.
When levels are brought back into a healthy, physiological range, most people don’t experience side effects. They experience relief.
If something doesn’t feel normal, that’s information—not something to push through.
Healing Requires Space, Not Just Information
One thing I’ve seen over and over again is this: People know what they should do, but they’re too exhausted, overwhelmed, or inflamed to actually do it.
Healing requires space: mental, physical, and emotional.
That’s why I work closely with patients in a consultative setting. Healing is not one-size-fits-all, and it doesn’t happen from a checklist.
It starts with understanding your body.
The Goal Is Not Perfection — It’s Resilience
Healthy people aren’t perfect. They’re resilient.
They bounce back faster.
They handle stress without wearing themselves down.
They live free from constant inflammation.
That’s the real goal here.
Not more rules.
Not more fear.
Not more control.
Just fewer obstacles between your body and its natural ability to heal.
