From Fatigued to Fired Up: How a Nitric Oxide Workout Transforms Your Energy

From the tops of our heads to the tips of our toes, blood flow is the key to delivering oxygen and nutrients throughout our entire body. Without proper blood flow, every system suffers—your muscles, brain, heart, and even your immune system. One of the most powerful ways to enhance blood flow is by boosting nitric oxide levels in your body.

I’m going to show you how nitric oxide can help you feel more energized, focused, and vibrant, along with a simple, fun four-minute workout you can do anywhere.

Why Nitric Oxide Matters

Nitric oxide is a naturally occurring molecule in your body that helps open up blood vessels, allowing more blood, oxygen, and nutrients to reach your brain, muscles, and organs. When nitric oxide levels are low, your body struggles to function optimally.

Here’s what I often see when nitric oxide is deficient:

  • Brain fatigue and memory issues – Difficulty focusing, forgetfulness, and even an increased risk of cognitive decline.
  • Poor cardiovascular health – Blood pressure rises, and the risk of heart disease increases.
  • Low energy and weak workouts – Muscles don’t get the oxygen they need to perform or recover.
  • Weakened immunity – Less blood flow can impair your body’s defense against infections.
  • Reduced libido – Blood flow affects sexual function as well.

When we restore nitric oxide, we often see better energy, improved mood, sharper brain function, stronger workouts, and healthier hearts, and yes, sometimes even better performance in the bedroom, too.

How I Help My Patients Boost Nitric Oxide

There are three main ways to increase nitric oxide in your body:

  1. Food – I recommend eating nitrate-rich superfoods, such as:
    • Beets and beet juice
    • Pomegranates
    • Dark leafy greens like arugula, kale, and spinach
These foods naturally help your body produce more nitric oxide.
  2. Supplements – There are excellent nitric oxide supplements, powders, and beetroot capsules. Especially if you’re over 30, your body may not be producing or converting nitric oxide efficiently.
  3. Mini Workouts – I love a short, targeted exercise routine that naturally stimulates nitric oxide. These movements increase blood flow to your muscles and brain, improving energy, focus, and performance.

My Favorite: The Four-Minute Nitric Oxide Workout

I’ve designed a four-minute workout that targets 16 muscles and naturally boosts nitric oxide. The key? Perform the exercises with your mouth closed. By restricting oxygen slightly, your body produces more nitric oxide to increase blood flow.

Here’s the routine:

  1. Squats
  • Do 10 squats, focusing on engaging your core and glutes. Keep your mouth closed and feel the blood pumping.
  1. Arm Raises with Core Squeeze
  • Raise your arms while squeezing your shoulder blades and core. Do 10 repetitions.
  1. Non-Jumping Jumping Jacks
  • Perform 10 “jumping jacks” without leaving the ground. This is perfect for small spaces or office breaks. Focus on squeezing your shoulder blades.
  1. Shoulder Raises
  • Lift your shoulders in small, controlled movements for 10 reps, targeting your delts and upper back.

Repeat all four exercises four times (4 rounds of 4 exercises = 4 minutes).

Pro Tip: Start without weights, then gradually add light dumbbells (3–5 lbs) as you get stronger.

When I Do This:

  • In the morning, to wake up my body
  • Before a workout for improved performance
  • At my desk for a mid-day energy boost

Quick Tips for Maintaining Healthy Nitric Oxide Levels

In addition to this workout, I always tell my patients to include nitric oxide-boosting foods daily:

  • Beets and beet juice
  • Pomegranates
  • Dark leafy greens like arugula, kale, and spinach

Even simple, consistent changes in your diet and movement can make a big difference in how energized and focused you feel.

Why This Matters

Nitric oxide is a natural, powerful way to improve energy, mood, brain function, and overall health. By combining nutrition, supplements if needed, and a short, fun workout, you can restore blood flow and feel revitalized from head to toe.
